✨ Off-the-Beaten-Path Europe | Lithuania
In this multimedia world, our minds are increasingly disturbed by various images and sounds. Every place seems to present itself in the most exaggerated manner. However, tucked away in a corner of Eastern Europe, there exists a country named Lithuania—a reserved poet that attracts those willing to listen with its silence and depth.
Lithuania is a Northern European country, bordering Latvia, Belarus, Poland, and Russia, with a stretch of coastline along the Baltic Sea. Rich in historical and cultural heritage, it's one of the three Baltic States, along with Latvia and Estonia.
The history of Lithuania traces back to the Middle Ages. At one point, it was one of the largest countries in Europe, its territory covering present-day Belarus, Ukraine, and parts of Poland and Russia. The Grand Duchy of Lithuania and Poland formed a union, known as the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. However, by the end of the 18th century, the Commonwealth was partitioned, and Lithuania became a part of the Russian Empire. Lithuania regained independence in the early 20th century, and after enduring Soviet rule and WWII, declared its independence again in 1990.

As you leave Lithuania, your physical luggage might be heavier with various souvenirs, but I hope your spiritual luggage is enriched by the profound cultural heritage and human touch here. Lithuania isn't a poem easily read or a painting easily seen; it requires heartfelt engagement and time to appreciate. In this fast-paced and somewhat superficial world, Lithuania is like an epic that never ends, a painting that's never complete.
